Modifying Your Audi

There are many ways to modify an Audi S4. Now depending on your own individual preferences, you may wish to acquire an original car or a car that has been modified. Other popular modifications include lowering the ride- height of the car to gain additional stability during cornering, short shifters, to lessen the throw of the gear lever and to give a more “solid” feel during changes, alloy wheel upgrades and various spoiler and grille options. With any sort of lowering, it’s a good idea to have geometric check done on the car to check camber and alignment, which can prove invaluable in the long run. The more radical of these cars can sport up to 470BHP using parts from the later Audi RS4 and after some costly tuning work.

Have you ever wondered where the car company name of Aston Martin originated? With headquarters situated in Warwickshire, England, the Aston Martin Lagonda Limited line of luxury cars gathered its name from a hill climber named Aston Clinton and one of the founding fathers of the company, Lionel Martin. The history of the Aston Martin is rather intriguing, seeing as it earned the esteemed respect of being the glamorous auto selection for the series of James Bond books and movies.

The first mention of the vehicle came in the seventh 007 novel, "Goldfinger" (1964), promptly followed by a showing on the silver screen in the movie of the same title. The Aston Martin was then regarded as the company car in "GoldenEye" (1995) and his private vehicle in "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997). Additional Aston Martin models also made appearances in a variety of James Bond films, including the Volante and Vantage in "The Living Daylights" (1987), the Vanguish in "Die Another Day" (2002). The new DBS was even featured in the latest Bond flick, "Casino Royale" (2006).

The History of Aston Martins

The Aston Martin car company was founded in 1913 with the help of Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. The two worked with one another to produce their first car under the company name, which incorporated the chassis of a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini and a four-cylinder Coventry-Simplex engine. Before the production of their first car took place, the company would have to overcome the obstacle of World War I, which had both owners serving their country under different branches of military. All of their machinery was lost in the war effort.

After the war, the company was re-founded in Kensington and rejuvenated with new car designs. In 1920, Bamford left the company and funding started to come from a different resource. By 1922, the company produced cars that fared quite well in the French Grand Prix, actually setting records in speed and endurance. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in 1924 and was bought by Lady Charnwood, only to see failure again in 1925. The factory closed in 1926, prompting Martin to walk away from the business.

That same year, the company was renamed Aston Martin Motors and received the backing of an assortment of wealthy investors. A known designer was brought in and racers, such as the 1929 Aston Martin International, the Le Mans, and the Ulster became quite successful. It wasn't until 1936 that the company decided to produce cars that were suitable for the open road.

The Second War World slowed production, but in 1947, the company underwent yet another change in leadership. The cars now showcased the signature letters of "DB", marking the initials of the managing director, David Brown. A number of DB series cars flourished, ranging from the DB2 in 1950 to the DB V8 of the 1970s. The V8 lasted until 1988 until the Virage line was introduced, followed by the Vantage in 1992. Several other models would trail, including the V12 Vantage (1999), the V12-engine Vanquish (2001), the convertible DB9 Volante (2004), and the 2006 V8 Vantage sports car.

Aston Martin Cars

Throughout the history of Aston Martin vehicles, there have been many different pre-war and post-war GT and supercars introduced to the public. Before the war, the company was responsible for models, such as the Aston Martin Standard Sports (1921-1925), Aston Martin International Le Mans (1932), and the Aston Martin 15/98 (1937-1939). After the war passed on, a host of "DB" series cars were created, including the Aston Martin 2-Litre Sports (also known as the DB1; 1948-1950), Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato (1961-1963), Aston Martin DB7 (1993-2003), and the 2004 Aston Martin DB9.

Supercars, such as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage hit the market from 1977 to 1989, which was named the First Supercar of Britain. It was valued for its ability to reach speeds of up to 170 mph. During the 90s, the Aston Martin Virage, Aston Martin Vantage, and Aston Martin V8 Coupe/V8 Volante were prime. With the Virage, the public embraced the possibilities of a sleeker, modern design and improved acceleration.

Currently, consumers may purchase Aston Martin cars, such as the V8 Vantage and the V8 Vantage Roadster, which is a light, yet pretty strong vehicle. The DB9 and the DB9 Volante are also on the market, which offers buyers the optional Sport Pack upgrade. The Vanguish S is available today as well, which can reach a top speed of 200 mph.

Mitsubishi Lancer Concept To Make Detroit Debut

Mitsubishi has long been in the shadow of Japan’s larger automakers, but the company has managed to produce a few hit models over the years including the sporty Eclipse, the compact Lancer, the sexy Miata roadster, and the venerable rotary powered RX-8. At the moment, there is plenty of buzz over a concept vehicle that will debut at the January 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and it is a car based on the high performance version of the Lancer called the Lancer Evolution or Evo.

The Evo to be featured, according to the Kicking Tires website, is the company’s “Prototype X” model replete with multiple hood scoops and a lower road stance. At present, only a few sketches of the concept have been shown to the public, but a preview press day will likely bring actual photos of the concept to the general public.

While the standard Lancer has been a decent seller in its own right, the Lancer Evolution has caught the attention of tuners everywhere. The Prototype X, when it finally comes off of the assembly line within the next year or two, will likely do its part to raise Mitsubishi’s visibility one more notch. This is good news for a division that once could not get out of the shadow of the Chrysler Corporation, its original U.S. partner.

Meanwhile, the basic layout would continue with the original’s front-midship rear-drive configuration with the engine positioned ahead of the driver but behind the front axle for 50:50 weight distributions. In addition, all four wheels would be attached by wishbone or multi-link suspension systems to maximize tire performance, road grip and dynamic stability and that a power-plant frame would again provide a solid connection between the engine and rear-mounted differential to sharpen throttle response.

Mazda engineers made every gram count when they very well knew that extra weight would have a dramatically negative influence on driving, cornering, and braking performance. Their "gram strategy" assessed weight in the smallest possible increments and carefully scrutinized weight-trimming opportunities. Other weight-saving tactics were employed as well. Advanced technology was applied where practical to achieve a light and rigid unibody design using materials that offered higher strength and lighter weight.

The MX5 iconic roadster has indeed evolved as evident on its bold new look. The classic "Coke bottle" shape of the contours was removed. The nose and tail are smoothly tapered but now the surfaces wrap smoothly between the wheels without narrowing. The fender arches of the new Mazda MX-5 are notably more pronounced for a substantially wider wheel track dimensions and a more athletic stance. New Subaru Impreza WRX Goes on Sale in Japan

Subaru’s new Impreza WRX goes on sale in Japan this week as a late 2007 model, and with it come greater anticipation for the high-performance STI version, which won't be officially revealed until the Tokyo auto show in October later this year.



The Subaru Impreza WRX five-door hatchback (known as the Impreza S-GT in Japan) features a turbocharged 2.0-liter version of the Subaru boxer-4, and it produces 248 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. When this car hits U.S. shores this fall as a 2008 model, it will have a 2.5-liter iteration of this engine that produces about 225 hp and 226 pound-feet of torque. In the UK, tight European emissions laws mean buyers won't be offered the WRX model when the hatch arrives there later this year.

Meanwhile, the “wilder”, high-performance 2008 Subaru WRX STI expected to remain under cover until the Tokyo auto show already has a few key facts leaked.

The WRX STI draws motorsports technology directly from Subaru expertise in World Rally Championship (WRC) competition and is designed to appeal to the most serious driving enthusiasts. STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International -- the high-performance and motorsports subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.

The highly anticipated STI is set to be powered by a tuned version of the 2.5-litre boxer engine turbocharged to produce more than 300hp and around 400Nm of torque, be mated to Subaru's existing six-speed manual box. A new automated manual, sourced from specialist firm Aisin, is expected to join the line-up when the latest Impreza is facelifted in 2009.

Subaru is making sure that the new Impreza can and will give its archrival, the 2008 Mitsubishi Evo X - which will feature an optional twin-clutch sequential-manual gearbox with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles – a run for its money.

The top Impreza will offer a range of unique styling additions, including a specially developed bonnet, grille and a wide front bumper with big air intakes.

Flared wheelarches house smart 18-inch alloys, which will hide the existing STI's Brembo brake system. Buyers can expect to see minor tweaks to the all-wheel-drive system, and engineers have also taken the opportunity to tune the handling, thanks to a more compact double wishbone rear suspension set-up.

Inside, the new Impreza range boasts higher-quality trim, with the STI getting a pair of supportive bucket seats up front to boost its sporty appeal.

Subaru (maker of top of the line Subaru oxygen sensor), has also told Inside Line that a turbocharged boxer-4 diesel for the WRX is in the works and should be out by early 2009. The company is reportedly eager to drop a high-mpg diesel into the Forester and Impreza soon after the Legacy gets Subaru's first diesel next summer, so the WRX is part of the program. Sources from Subaru have also reportedly confirmed that the company is working on a five-speed automatic and a continuously variable transmission, and both these options could be offered as early as mid-2009.

Subaru is a Japanese car company and is the automotive division of Fuji Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (FHI). It is currently an affiliate of Toyota Motor Corporation, with it owning 8.7% of FHI. They acquired that stake from General Motors, who bought 20% of FHI in 1999 to have an extended presence in international markets, and collaborate technologically with FHI.

The Nissan Skyline - A Truly Japanese Sports Car

Know affectionately as Godzilla among its enthusiasts, the Nissan Skyline truly is a fine Japanese sports car, and by gum what a fine looking beast she is too. They're not all that common around the USA, so when you do come across one there are plenty of curious admirers and enthusiasts gathering around whenever these cars park up.

Believe it or not, the Nissan Skyline has been around for some 45 years and has deservedly picked up many prestigious awards along the way. However, there was a 10 year period where production stopped, but delighted fans were over the moon when Nissan announced in 1989 that it would be releasing an all new GT-R Skyline.

The few years after the production of this stylish machine, the GT-R Skyline was awarded with the Japanese Touring Car Championship for Group 'A' touring cars. In 1994, because of its phenomenal success, the Nissan Skyline was given its own series. This series was aptly named the Japan GT Car series.

Although the Nissan Skyline was a much sought after motor in the United States of America, the Skyline GT-R was never made to comply with US standards, but all was not lost thanks to Motorex. Having a lower temperature means the air traveling through the exhaust system is going to be much heavier and thus harder to move, which hurts your engines performance. Installing the correct exhaust size is going to give you the correct temperature of exhaust and will evacuate the air effectively. Contrary to what many think, a car doesn’t actually lose horse power because it has a large exhaust because of a loss of back pressure. It looses horsepower with a large exhaust because of turbulence and the cold dense air.

An upgraded computer chip is one of the easiest modifications. Upgrading the chip will enrich the fuel curve. This gives your car a bit more fuel to support the added power. Some also say it will help cool the pistons. In addition to the added fuel, the JWT chip maximizes the engine's ignition timing and also tunes the cam timing. Boost pressure equals power. Running higher boost pressure is only capable after an ECU upgrade. The Short History of Koenigsegg

The Koenigsegg car brand is still quite young. This project was officially launched in 1993. The creator of the brand was Christian von Koenigsegg, who had intentions to create true car of dream. The concept of the future machine was based on Formula One technology. Can it be surprisung that Koenigsegg became one of the fastest streetcars in the world?

Koenigsegg constructed its first prototype car in 1994, in only one and a half years after company establishing. The world-renowned drivers tested this model and were all amazed by its incredible performance. Among them were Picko Troberg, Calle Rosenblad and Rickard Rydell. As Picko said, the new car would be the king of the speed.

In 1997, the company created Koenigsegg CC prototype. The car was shown at the Cannes film festival and had great success. The new star comes out to the automobile world. The silver production prototype CC received great attention at its presentation at the Paris Motor Show. Articles about it were published in most of world car magazines.

The first custom Koenigsegg CC, named CC 8S, was assembled and handed over to its proud owner at the Geneva Motor Show in March. This red car was also tested by Koenigsegg test drivers on racetracks and roads, for further look and drivability refine.



In 2003, the Koenigsegg vehicles set the Guinness World Record as most powerful streetcars. In the meantime company engineers were working on the improvement of CC. Some new ideas in design and look were implemented on the 2003 model CC 8S.

Rolls-Royce’s new Phantom is born with the right spirit. But for those who intend to seize its spirit, they have to pay first the pricey price. And how pricey is pricey? A Phantom Drophead Coupe was earlier sold for $2 million at a charity auction in Florida. Now, it holds the record of the most expensive new car ever sold in the United States.

In the seven-year history of the Naples Winter Wine Festival, the $2 million bid was the highest price paid. The famous auction was attended by equally famous celebrities like television and film stars. It was also graced by top vintners and chefs. The top bidder though has to wait for the delivery of the landmark vehicle. The production of the soft-top worth £300,000 will be starting this summer at the company's factory in Goodwood, West Sussex. The said factory will use only two robots to do the painting of the car’s spaceframe body. The rest of the work is done by hand. This is in accordance with the Rolls Royce tradition.

The 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe debuted at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) last month. The ultra-luxury saloon was the first Rolls-Royce branded car made under the ownership of BMW. It is equipped with 6.75 L, 48-valve, V12 engine based from BMW’s V12. The engine is capable of producing 453 horsepower and 531 ft•lbf of torque.

After the car was unveiled, it got a mixed reception. Purists did not take the modifications positively. However, modern owners interpreted the alterations in an optimistic light.

The excitement found in the new Rolls Royce Phantom may not be credited to EBC Active Brakes Direct;it has to be contributed by a collection of remarkable auto parts that include the double wishbone suspension and six-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz is planning to release soon in the market a SLR McLaren super sports car roadster with a top. GM'S 2006 Cadillac XLR: Cadillac Performance Parts, Aftermarket Parts



The 2006 Cadillac XLR-V is the newest addition to the high-performance V-Series vehicles for the ultra-luxury class of high-performance roadsters.

The 2006 Cadillac XLR is equipped with a supercharged 4.4-liter Northstar V-8 engine, good for 440 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque--120 horsepower. The 32-valve V-8 is backed by a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission.

The XLR chassis is sharper than the SL500's, however, and Cadillac has enhanced it with a stiffer front anti-roll bar, the addition of a rear bar, and a sportier Magnetic Ride Control calibration. The brakes have been uprated, with bigger diameter 13.4-inch front and 13.0-inch rear cross-drilled rotors, a setup that is essentially the same as the Corvette Z51's. The StabiliTrak stability system now has four positions. The larger diameter wheels are accompanied by wider Pirelli run-flat 235/45 front and 255/40 rear tires.

A full complement of performance enhancements such as new 19-inch wheels and tires, a recalibrated suspension and stronger brakes gives the Cadillac a serious performance entry in the luxury convertible segment.

Bracket Drag Racing Doesn't Require Fast Cars



Bracket Racing which is also known as ET racing is a competitive drag racing sport that allows just about anyone with any kind of vehicle to competitively drag race against each other even if one car is inherently faster than the other and has quicker quarter mile times. Bracket racing tends to favor more consistent and reliable drag racing cars/drivers and doesn’t require fast cars to win.

Before the start of each race series the cars are divided up into classes depending on how the fast the cars are estimated to cover the quarter mile. Each driver is then allowed to race a few practice runs down the track to get an idea on how the car is performing with the given track and weather conditions. Using the practice runs, also know as time trials, each driver will estimate what their car will run in the quarter mile drag race and mark it on their rear window. This estimate is known as the car’s dial-in.

When both cars are staged at the starting line the dial-in numbers are posted to the track’s scoreboard for the drag racing fans to see. The car with the higher dial-in time will get a head start in the race. The amount of the head start is calculated by subtracting the lower dial-in time from the higher one. For example, if two cars are staged with 12.51 and 13.51 dial-in times, the car with the 13.51 dial-in will get the green light 1 second before the other car. This is essentially handicapping the cars to make the race more dependent on the driver and the car’s consistency rather than which car is actually faster.

The winners of bracket drag races are determined by which cars cross the end of the quarter mile finish line first, without running quicker quarter mile times than their dial-in times. If a car ends up running quicker than their dial-in time, it’s known as a breakout and that car automatically loses the race, unless both cars breakout. If both cars breakout then the car with the smallest difference between their actual run and their dial-in wins the race.

Bracket racing is heavily dependent on the driver’s reaction time at the start of the race and how consistent the car is with regards to launching and running down the quarter mile. Each driver is allowed to adjust the car’s dial-in time throughout the series of eliminations depending on the weather and how the car is performing. The bracket races continue until all competitors are eliminated and there is one winner for the each class.

As far as I can see the new 2009 Camaro concept car is being very well received in the automotive community, at the first a lot of people hemmed and hawed about one thing or another, just the same as I did, But after spending some time doing a little research on it, I discovered that the 2009 Camaro is a very well put together car for a concept car.

A the first I thought that it could use a few upgrades, but after thinking about it, there were a lot of Camaro fans putting in their two cents when Chevrolet took the Camaro out of production, in 2002, and I thought that Chevrolet had made a horrible mistake at the time.

The result of a lot of people telling Chevrolet what they thought the new Camaro should be, has made it a real work of art, and I for one will give Chevrolet their kudos, they have put a lot of effort in to making the Camaro a car that most people could like, and if they didn't at the first, then they'd get used to it.

At SEMA the CEO of Chevrolet drove out in the new Camaro concept car, and their wasn't a dry eye in the house, but the return of an icon will bring out the joy and happiness to a lot of people, when the big man spoke about the car he said: a few things would be changed at the time of release, but nothing major, he'd mentioned that, right now it has 22" wheels on the rear end, and that will be changed to 20" when the car is released.

The front wheels are destined for a change also, for from 21" to 20", nothing that will be to noticeable, but it will help them save some money on the production of the car, he also said that there were going to be some changes in the interior also, they would change the center consol from stainless steel to plastic, in an effort to save money on the production.

All this is supposed to keep the base price on the car down to the $20,000 range, and that says a lot for their efforts to sell their new cars, in this range almost anybody can afford to own one of them.

The Camaro concept with it's low slung stance, it has the look of a sports car, while still retaining it's identity as a muscle car, Chevrolet has done brilliant work on this car, and will get one big "YAY" form this muscle car maniac.

Citroen Car Leasing - Why People Contract Hire Citroens

Since Citroen were established 1919 by André Citroen they have gone through various significant changes and have created one of the world’s most iconic cars, the 2CV. Also in the thirties they produced the worlds first mass produced front wheel drive car, which at the time was a major departure from the rest of the car manufacturing industry.

One of the most significant changes that the company has gone through was they merger between themselves and Peugeot, the other most famous French car maker. C2 – a supermini with a drastic new styling intended to replace the Saxo. Introduced in 2004 the car was designed by the renowned Donato Coco. While generally these cars have had lower performance than some of the most desirable small cars they have all the looks and a lot more pocket friendly insurance premiums.

C3 – also intended to replace the Saxo, it was a slightly larger than the C2 with five doors was launched in 2002. Like many of the cars produced by PSA it shares a few parts with some of the cars made by Peugeot. It has the same chassis as the 1003 and the mirrors of the 206. They’ve also produced the Pluriel which is an innovative model which can be setup up either as a partial, full convertible or closed roof.

C5 – replacing the Xantia the C5 is the latest large family car in the range. Despite sharing the same naming convention as some of the more recently launched models it doesn’t share the distinctive styling of some of its siblings. A brand new version is expected to launch before the end of 2007.

C1 – developed as a joint venture between PSA and Toyota. As a consequence there is very little different technically between the C1, Peugeot 106 and the Toyota Aygo. Despite this, the city car has developed quite a following. As well as a three door model they also offer a five door version which might be a bit tight in the back but offers a bit more flexibility than the smaller option.

Pagani Zonda R To Deliver Utimate Racetrack Performance



Italian automaker Pagani has earlier divulged plans for a track-specific version of its Zonda supercar. Now the ideals of the said supercar are imbibed in the Zonda R version.

According to the automaker, the new coupe was designed with "the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety.”

With the supercar equipped with a 7.3 liter V12 engine sourced from AMG by Mercedes-Benz, it also debuted at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The said variant is intended to rival cars like the Ferrari FXX. Compared to its sibling – the Zonda F, the R variant is designed from scratch. It only carried over 10 percent of Zonda F’s components.

The spark of the supercar potentials has been set by an Italo-American customer, enthusiast and already proud owner of 3 Zondas. He describes the project as: “The thought has been on my mind for quite some time, but I am not interested in racing.”

The Zonda R is born with full liberty. The equation is set forth by the automaker to bring out the best performance without any compromising comfort and safety. In September last year, the first sketches were ready, but the support of Mercedes-AMG for a high revving engine cannot be overemphasized. The engine was inspired by the CLK GTR, which has dominated the GT championships.

Chrysler Gives Its Okay To The Imperial



A venerable name in autodom is being resurrected and it will soon grace the body of a large, rear wheel drive luxury car. After a successful “concept car” debut at a pair of recent auto shows, the Chrysler Imperial will be built and should be in U.S. showrooms in 2010. Yes, it will be a long wait for the Imperial’s return but the car must first await additional changes within DaimlerChrysler before it can be built. Read on to learn more about the Imperial’s impending return.

The Chrysler Imperial that has been currently making the rounds at various auto shows has been well received. Visitors have remarked favorably about the car’s Bentley like look as well as its cavernous interior and luxury appointments. Currently, the brand has nothing larger or more luxurious to offer buyers who might want to upgrade from the 300C, thus Chrysler has been regularly losing buyers to more luxurious brands, something parent DaimlerChrysler [DCX] wants to stem.

The Imperial name can be traced all the way back to 1926 when Walter P. Chrysler decided to take on Lincoln and Packard with a luxury model all of its own. From its inception, the Imperial has always represented the top of the line vehicle for Chrysler and it has, at various times, been marketed as its own make. Currently, the top of the line 300C maxes out at around $42,000.

So, why the hold up? Well, for one thing the Imperial program will be an added expense for DCX. Currently, the company is in the process of making its Mercedes line up more profitable and that involves the expense of updating several models. Based on the Mercedes “R Class” body, the coming Imperial is likely to be built on an updated version of the R Class platform. Both cars would arrive in dealer showrooms at the same time as 2011 models, hence the long lead time.

The Imperial concept sits on a frame with a 123 inch wheelbase. The car measures 214 long, much longer than the 300C. Reports are indicating that the concept car dimensions are likely to be retained.

For Chrysler fans, the Imperial represents further strengthening of the Chrysler-Mercedes relationship. By using a Mercedes platform, the Imperial can be built and will give Chrysler a much needed product. With a standard V8 mated to a five or six speed automatic the car will certainly not be on the fuel efficient side. However, my best guess is that the car will also come optionally equipped with a thrifty Mercedes built turbo diesel, a first for any Chrysler car.

LS7 Engine

The all-new LS7 of the 2007 Z06 reintroduces the 427-cubic-inch engine to the Corvette lineup. Unlike the previous 427 engine, which was a big-block design, the new 7.0-liter LS7 is a small-block V-8 – the largest-displacement small-block ever produced by GM and a tribute to its 50 years as a performance icon.

With 500 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, it also is the most powerful passenger car engine ever produced by Chevrolet and GM. The LS7 is easily identified under the hood by red engine covers with black lettering.

The LS7 shares the same basic Gen IV V-8 architecture as the Corvette’s 6.0-liter LS2, but the LS7 uses a different cylinder block casting with pressed-in steel cylinder liners to accommodate the engine’s wide, 104.8-mm-wide cylinder bores; the LS2 has 101.6-mm bores. And when compared to the LS2, the LS7 also has a different front cover, oil pan, exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads.

Internally, the LS7’s reciprocating components make use of racing-derived lightweight technology, including titanium connecting rods and intake valves, to help boost horsepower and rpm capability. The rpm fuel shut-off limit is 7000 rpm.

One of the clearest examples of the LS7’s race-bred technology is its use of titanium connecting rods. They weigh just 480 grams apiece, almost 30 percent less than the rods in the LS2 V-8. Besides being lightweight, which enhances high-rpm performance and rpm range, titanium makes the rods extremely durable.

Drivetrain

The Corvette Z06’s powertrain and drivetrain systems are matched to the LS7’s performance capability. The light, four-into-one headers discharge in to new, close-coupled catalytic converters and through to new “bi-modal” mufflers. The mufflers each feature a vacuum-actuated outlet valve, which controls exhaust noise during low-load operation but opens for maximum power.

At the rear of the LS7 engine, a single-mass flywheel and lightweight, high-capacity clutch channel torque to the rear transaxle. The six-speed manual transmission has been strengthened to handle the LS7’s increased torque load. The transmission includes a pump which sends transmission fluid to the front radiator for cooling. Upon its return, the fluid removes additional heat from the differential lube before returning to the transmission.

Distinct Design

The aerodynamics of the Z06’s exterior were shaped by the experiences of the Corvette racing program, where high-speed stability and cornering capability are paramount. And while the racecars use large rear wings, the Z06’s elevated spoiler provides sufficient downforce to balance the road-worthy front splitter without adversely affecting aerodynamic drag. The Z06’s Cd is 0.31.

Uncompromising Amenities

For all its race-inspired functionality, the Z06 is designed to be a daily drivable high-performance vehicle. To that end, comfort and convenience are held to a very high standard. HID lighting, fog lamps, leather seating, dual-zone air conditioning, cabin air filtration and Head-Up Display (HUD) with track mode and g-meter are standard.

The Z06 also has a revised gauge cluster that displays the Z06 logo on the 7000-redline tachometer and has a new readout on the oil pressure gauge to reflect the higher standard pressure of the dry-sump oiling system. And, like other 2007 Corvettes, the Z06 has a new, smaller-diameter three-spoke steering wheel that provides a more agile, performance-oriented feel. The seats feature two-tone leathering surfaces, with Z06-logo embroidery and contrasting stitching.

Z06 options include a Bose audio system with an in-dash six-CD changer, polished wheels, a telescoping steering wheel, heated seats, side air bags, a navigation system with GPS, Homelink and XM Satellite Radio.
